Course Description: "An exploration of the foundations and epidemiology of renal (kidney) disease and how it affects local and global communities from a physiological and public health standpoint. The functions of the kidneys in the body are explored as well as how a renal disease states can quickly progress and impact quality of life. Discussions include: kidney function; renal disease initiation and progression; impact of disease on quality of life; preventative care; long-term treatment options for renal disease; influences of implicit bias in medically underserved communities disproportionately affected by kidney disease; and impacts of kidney disease from a global health perspective."
