Terp Thon Planning Team Applications Open!
What is Planning Team?
Planning Team is a great way to get involved right away at UMD and find YOUR people! Your impact as a Planning Team member will be to collaborate with other dedicated student leaders to spread awareness about our cause around all parts of campus, plan events throughout the year, and be involved in making so many miracles! If this is your first time on our Planning Team, you will begin in the Membership Development program to learn all about our organization and bond with fellow members. Then, you will move on to one of our 17 different committees that is perfect for your talents!

Looking for a service-leadership opportunity? Become an AMSA Service Squad Leader!
SSL’s are responsible for leading a service group through volunteering and reflection meetings. This semester, SSLs will guide service squads of AMSA members through virtual or in-person volunteering opportunities with AMSA’s community partners. SSLs will hold reflection meetings to develop a deeper understanding of the community issues that they are addressing with their work. SSL’s will also have the option to help develop a deliverable with their service group to highlight what the members have learned about their social issue along with what they have accomplished through their service. This is a great opportunity to develop your leadership skills while engaging in valuable service experiences! Please send any questions to umdamsaboard@gmail.com.
Would You Like To Mentor or Help Recruit The Next Generation of Terps?
Are you an Terp looking to make an impact on your local community? Through the partnership of the Division of Student Affairs' MentorMe program and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions' Peer2Peer (P2P) program we seek to improve the pathways for future Terps to successfully gain access to UMD. Applicants must be able to have open and honest conversations about their experience at UMD while communicating their experiences in an impactful and positive manner.
MentorMe mentors will be paired with an incoming first-year student to aid their transition to the University of Maryland. By developing a relationship with an incoming student, the mentor can give a student their first personal connection to UMD. Through a one-on-one mentorship, mentors will be able to develop leadership skills to make an impact on the UMD community.
Peer2Peer (P2P) will give current University of Maryland students the opportunity to be involved as peer ambassadors in recruitment efforts in urban, diverse communities such as Prince Georges County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Washington D.C. We are seeking student volunteers who are willing to give their UMD testimony and travel with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to not only represent UMD, but to also support prospective students as they navigate and complete the application process at UMD. Student volunteers will attend college fairs, participate on panels, assist with high school visits / workshops and assist with the EDGE Overnight Stay Program and the Maryland Ascent Program.
The deadline to apply for both programs is Friday, September 24. If you have any additional questions about either program please reach out to Albert Clarke via aclarkev@umd.edu
Student Virtual Volunteer Tutoring Opportunity
Even though DC Schools are returning to in-person learning, many families are facing difficulties. Students have fallen behind in their studies, and the adjustment period is proving challenging. We know that the need for tutors will be very high due to the constant adjustments and the lack of resources provided to the community. This is especially true for Black, Latinx, students from low-income families, and students with disabilities who have been hit the hardest and are falling behind. If you are able, please consider volunteering at least an hour of your time to tutoring these students and serving as a role model. The program is completely virtual!
