Student Summer Employment with Terp Young Scholars

Terp Young Scholars (TYS), a 3-week pre-college program for high school students, invites you to apply to be on one of our 2022 mentor teams!

TYS offers two learning options: TYS-Campus and TYS-Online. Both options are offered July 11-29, 2022.

In both options, mentors work together to supervise Terp Young Scholars to ensure a safe, inclusive, diverse, and welcoming environment. Position descriptions and the application can be found on the Terp Young Scholars Mentor Opportunities Website.

Requirements for all positions:

• Must have a desire to work with students ages 13-19
• Must be a current UMD degree-seeking student
• Must attend one of the following mandatory training sessions:
• July 7-9 (Online Lead Mentors)
• July 8-9 (Online Program Mentors)
• July 7-10 (Campus Lead and Activity Mentors)
• July 8-10 (Campus Program Mentors)

Additional requirements for TYS-Campus positions:

• Must reside in provided residence hall housing from July 10-29
• Prohibited from enrolling in Summer Session II courses

Compensation:

• TYS-Campus General Program Mentors: $4,200
• TYS-Campus Lead Activity Mentors: $4,400
• TYS-Campus Lead Residential Mentors: $4,600
• TYS-Online General Program Mentors: $2,000
• TYS-Online Lead Mentors: $2,400

In addition, TYS-Campus mentors receive housing (single room), meals, and a campus recreation pass.

Information sessions:

Attend an information session to learn more about the program and ask questions. You must register for an information session to receive a Zoom link. Below are the information session dates being offered:

• Friday, January 28, 2022 from 2 - 3 p.m.
• Monday, January 31, 2022 from 5 - 6 p.m.
