Are you an undergraduate student, Pell Grant recipient, and U.S. citizen with international interests? You may be eligible to apply for the U.S. State Department’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, which provides up to $5,000! In the last 2 ½ years, 80 UMD students have won Gilman Scholarships, winning a total of $256,000!
The deadline to apply for Gilman Scholarships for SUMMER AND FALL 2021 is March 2, 2021.
VIRTUAL EXPERIENCES OFFERED THROUGH UMD
The Office of International Affairs is excited to offer 10 new Global Classrooms courses for Summer 2021 and one virtual internship program. These opportunities are eligible for the Gilman Scholarship, which is now open! Fall 2021 opportunities are also Gilman-eligible - listings for Fall 2021 are under development, so please check the links below regularly to learn about them.
Global Classrooms Signature Courses and Global Classrooms Connections allow you to gain international experience from wherever you are. These courses are intentionally designed to facilitate meaningful connection and collaboration with global experts and partners, going beyond the typical online class experience as they help you grow cross-cultural competencies. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain skills necessary to thrive in our increasingly diverse and interconnected world, all while sticking to your academic plan!
Summer registration opens on Feb. 23.

Attend one of our upcoming information sessions and you'll get access to our ELMS Gilman resource site, which includes samples of successful application essays. We imagine that you may have many questions about study abroad in general, and we will do our best to answer them!
