Beta Psi Omega - Rush Fall 2021

Do you have a passion for science and service? Do you want to find a community of people like you? Then come out and meet the members of Beta Psi Omega! UMD's Professional Biology Fraternity!

All majors are welcome, including Biology, Public Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, Kinesiology and more!

We aim to provide a supportive brotherhood in this co-ed fraternity for students in the science fields professionally and academically. The benefits of Beta Psi Omega include networking opportunities such as research and internships, earning service hours in events with the fraternity, and social events for our members. The Do Good Institute is Hiring Student Ambassadors!

Are you passionate about doing good? The Do Good Institute is currently hiring a new cohort of 15 student ambassadors for the 2021-2022 school year. Ambassadors will work collaboratively to support and provide feedback on DGI programs, represent the institute at events, and pursue personal projects focused on improving Do Good’s presence on campus and beyond.

Students are expected to attend monthly all-team meetings at the Do Good Accelerator, attend events on behalf of the institute, and participate in community-building events. The weekly commitment is 3-5 hours and students will be paid a $400 stipend per semester (totaling to $800 for the 2021-2022 school year).

Join us for the Fall 2021 Alternative Breaks Dialogue Program!

Program Details:

● The Alternative Breaks Dialogue Program looks to build a world in which UMD students are empowered learners in community together, taking action toward just causes.
● Through deliberate and reflective dialogues addressing global social issues, student participants will exchange and evaluate different ideas and approaches that challenge specific social, political and economic structures of our global community.
● Interested students must be willing to commit 1.5 hours/week for 5 weeks from Sunday, October 10th, 2021 - Saturday, November 13th, 2021.
● The experience is free and in-person.

Who should participate?:

● Any student that wants to explore community development, civic engagement, local issues, leadership, and service.
● Undergraduate and graduate students interested in exploring social issues that include environmental conservation, education, socioeconomic inequality, healthcare, and more.

How will you benefit from participating?:

● Connect with a community of peers from across campus and create new friendships.
● Develop and practice personal and group leadership skills such as active listening,
reflection, critical thinking, and communication.
● Learn how to effectively engage in constructive dialogue.

What should I expect?:

● Active engagement in personal reflection, listening, small group dialogue, and small group activities.
● Thought-provoking questions and dialogue around social issues.
● Making connections between social issues and your academic, personal, professional,
or civic life.
● Identifying at least one action step to take towards a social issue you are passionate
about.

Are you interested in supporting students through mental health challenges? Do you hope to make a wider impact on campus? Are you ever the stand-in therapist, mom friend, or go-to tea spiller? Apply to be a Lean On Me College Park (CP) supporter at https://ter.ps/leanonme! Lean On Me CP is an anonymous, peer-to-peer text line for UMD students to seek non-crisis mental health support.

Lean On Me CP complements existing services at UMD with a mission to lower the barrier to entry for seeking emotional support by being anonymous, highly accessible, approachable, and involved in the community. Join the Title IX Advisory Board

Looking to be involved with Title IX or passionate about sexual misconduct prevention? Come serve on the Title IX Advisory Board as an at-large undergraduate representative!

The Title IX Advisory Board will meet once a month to discuss student feedback and concerns related to sexual misconduct prevention, propose new ways to ensure resources are accessible to students, promote Title IX initiatives, and assist in designing Title IX events and outreach efforts. These meetings will be held virtually from 5-6 pm on September 22nd, October 13th, November 10th, and December 8th.

The Office of Civil Rights and Sexual Misconduct (otherwise known as Title IX) is responsible for handling student concerns and complaints related to sex discrimination and sexual misconduct. The Board will promote dialogue between students and Title IX administrators, which will allow for consistent student feedback and collaboration. Serving on the Title IX Advisory Board is a great opportunity to learn more about Title IX and be an active participant in making campus safer for students.

Are you interested in doing acts of service for members of the DMV community? Would you like meaningful volunteer experiences that help you learn more about yourself?

If so, consider joining UMD Tzu Ching! We are the collegiate chapter of an international humanitarian organization focused on charity, medicine, education, and humanistic culture. Our service events include food distributions, tutoring, nature clean ups, and more. We also have monthly GBMs where we get to know members and discuss the values important to TC.


We welcome people from all backgrounds and majors: if you would like to volunteer with us, we would love to have you!!!
